The Biology Department Peer Mentoring program pairs upper-level Biology majors with
incoming freshman and transfer students to create a supportive community of students
in the Biology department. The goal of the program is to help ease students' transition
into WCU.
Interested students should contact Dr. Eric Sweet - esweet@wcupa.edu
The program piloted in Spring 2024, connects students in the college via GroupMe and shares research-based student success knowledge, student success events, campus
resources, and reminders. Students can get peer support anytime, anywhere. The project
will empower students within the CBPM to thrive socially, academically, and professionally
while building a strong sense of connection and a culture of caring through mentorship,
peer support, and community engagement. Alongside the community, the program also
pairs student mentors and mentees. The peer mentoring group will meet in person throughout
the semester. The program also organizes peer support events throughout the semester.
