WCU Honors the Classes of 2020 and 2021 With 28 Commencement Ceremonies
West Chester University will celebrate the Class of 2020 — those students whose graduation ceremonies were canceled last spring due to the pandemic — with in-person commencement ceremonies.
WCU’s Class of 2021 will also participate in in-person commencement ceremonies this spring. To adhere to social-distancing guidelines, the University is hosting smaller, in-person outdoor ceremonies. Approximately 200 graduates, organized by college, will attend each ceremony. Several colleges have large numbers of graduates, requiring several ceremonies for these colleges: Arts and Humanities; Business and Public Management; Health Sciences; Sciences and Mathematics; and the Graduate School.
All ceremonies will be held in Farrell Stadium on South New Street. Each has a rain date, which will also be held in Farrell Stadium.
For the Class of 2020, there will be 14 ceremonies scheduled on four dates: Saturday, April 24, Sunday, April 25, Sunday, May 2, and Saturday, May 8.
For the Class of 2021, there will be 14 ceremonies scheduled on five dates: Friday, May 14, Saturday, May 15, Sunday, May 16, Saturday, May 22, and Sunday, May 23.
Each ceremony will be approximately 45 minutes. All ceremonies will be live streamed. Visit the Commencement website www.wcupa.edu/commencement the day of the ceremony for the link.
Although masks are required for all graduates and guests, the graduates will have an opportunity to remove their masks briefly on stage after they receive their diploma covers and as they leave the platform for their formal photograph.
Graduates who completed their 2020 and 2021 degree requirements at the University’s Philadelphia site have been invited to participate in the on-campus ceremonies. Pandemic-related event restrictions in the city of Philadelphia prevent the University from holding a Philadelphia Commencement Ceremony this spring. Complete details are available on the Philadelphia site website.
Below is the chronological order of ceremonies for the Class of 2020 graduates. Ceremonies are for those earning their degrees in May; ceremonies for December 2020 graduates are indicated.
*Note about graduate students with an August graduation term: Graduate students who earned their degrees in August 2020 will participate in the December 2020 ceremony. Graduate students graduating in August 2021 will wait for the December 2021 ceremony.
