WCU Homecoming is Saturday, October 8
Alumni will hustle back to campus for Homecoming Weekend this Friday and Saturday, Oct. 7 and 8. The WCU campus and community are decked out in purple and gold this week showing school spirit in advance of this weekend’s festivities. The 2022 theme is Rock and Roll.
While the major event is the Homecoming football game, there are events for students all week and several alumni classes will hold reunions (1972, joint event for 1966 and 1967) in the Science and Engineering Center and The Commons (SECC).
A special feature this year is the “Rockin' Ramcab Trivia” shuttle — a game that takes place in a WCU golf cart as students are transported across campus, a la cable TV’s Cash Cab. Hitch a ride from the Ehinger Gym lawn on Thursday, Oct. 6, between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. and win prizes as you answer wellness trivia. Sponsored by WCU’s Wellness Promotion.
At 9 a.m. Saturday, students are welcome to join alumni at a session of “Yoga and Yogurt” at the 108A yoga studio in Goshen Hall (125 North Campus Drive). Hosted by the Office of Alumni Engagement, the all-ages event costs $5 and features post-yoga breakfast treats and a tour through the Food Lab in the SECC.
Stroll across campus on Saturday between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. for photo ops and giveaways of Golden Ram spirit swag at the Ram statue (Church Street and West Rosedale in front of Old Library); the new Rams Up mural on the ground floor of Sykes; and the Philips Memorial Building whispering arches.
At 10:30, the Fraternity and Sorority Life Plaque Wall on the second floor of Sykes Student Union (110 West Rosedale Avenue) will be dedicated. This tribute was made possible in part by the generous donations of WCU friends and alumni. Light refreshments will be served.
For Saturday’s pre-game blast, the Incomparable Golden Rams Marching Band will kick off the Homecoming “Rock the Block” party at 10 a.m. in Ram Park (on the west side of Sykes Student Union). The all-ages event has inflatables, caricaturists, face painting, a photo booth, lawn games, student performers, and WCUR providing music. The party winds down at 2 p.m., so at 1:30 p.m., follow the Ram Squad for a spirited walk down the Ram Route to the game.
The Homecoming football game vs. Shippensburg University kicks off at 2 p.m. in Farrell Stadium on South New Street. A football shuttle bus will be added on Saturday, running from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. with stops at M-Lot, Wayne Hall, and Farrell Stadium.
Students also have these treats in store:
Wednesday, Oct. 5, 6 to 10 p.m. in Sykes Ballrooms: Rockin’ Blast From the Past Name That Tune contest co-sponsored by WCUR with music, prizes, and retro arcade games.
Thursday Oct. 6, 7:30 p.m. in Sykes Ballrooms: Rep Rally hosted by Black Student Union, with lit vibes and good music.
Friday Oct. 7, 7 to 11 p.m. in Sykes Ballrooms: Rams After Hours: Rock Fest and College Lip Sync Battle. Food, photos, giveaways throughout Sykes and a 9:15 p.m. showing of the movie Elvis in Sykes Theater.
On Sunday, Oct. 9, students will be out cleaning up the borough in the annual Adopt-a-Spot event.
And a nice way to close out the weekend is uptown at the borough’s annual West Chester Chili Cook-off Sunday from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., presented by the West Chester Rotary Club.
