More than 3,300 Students to Graduate at WCU Spring Commencement Ceremonies

The University has organized 15 separate commencement ceremonies to accommodate more than 3,300* spring graduates and their guests.

The campus ceremonies take place between Friday, May 12, and Sunday, May 14, in Emilie K. Asplundh Concert Hall in Philips Memorial Building and Hollinger Field House.  View Commencement schedule, location details, and parking info 

There are 2,465 students* eligible to graduate at West Chester University’s undergraduate commencement ceremonies.

Undergraduate students will graduate by department and College. Also, two ceremonies for the 854 graduate-level candidates will take place on Sunday, May 14: The 3 p.m. ceremony in Hollinger for graduates of the College of Education and Social Work and the College of Health Sciences; and the 6 p.m. ceremony in Hollinger for graduates of the Colleges of Arts & Humanities, Business & Public Management, Sciences & Mathematics, and the School of Music.

In addition, several special ceremonies recognize specific graduating populations with the awarding of special stoles or cords prior to the commencement ceremonies.

  • This is the 31st year for WCU to host a Kente celebration, which affirms and celebrates the cultural identity of students who identify as Alaskan Native, Asian and Asian American, Black and African American, Caribbean American, Desi American, Latina/o/x, Native American, Hawaiian/Pacific Islander, and Multiracial. The service, at which Kente cloth stoles are awarded, takes place Thursday, May 11 at 6 p.m. in Hollinger Field House.
  • On May 11, the WCU Honors College hosts a service to award graduating students their cords. It takes place at 8 p.m. in Emilie K. Asplundh Concert Hall.

WCU’s Philadelphia location will host two commencement ceremonies for May and August 2023 graduates on Saturday, May 13, at the Hilton Philadelphia at Penn’s Landing. The undergraduate ceremony will begin at 9:30 a.m. and the graduate ceremony will begin at 12 p.m. and both will be livestreamed. 

The procession for each hour-long ceremony begins 15 minutes prior to the ceremony start time. Tickets are required for guests three years of age and older. All ceremonies will be livestreamed.

This year’s graduating class was the first to participate in what has become a
Golden Rams Welcome Week tradition: the annual class photo on the Quad.


* Combined with the numbers of graduates from the University’s fall commencement last December, WCU has graduated a total of 4,657 students (both undergraduate and graduate) for the academic year 2022-2023: 3,466 undergraduates and 1,191 graduates.
