WCU Prepares to Welcome Exceptional Students This Fall, Including Jayden Alston

Jayden Alston Twenty+ colleges sent Jayden Alston acceptance letters, accompanied by offers of approximately $1.4 million in merit scholarships across four years.

The Upper Darby High School track star senior chose West Chester University, his father’s alma mater. Dr. Jamar L. Alston ’04, M’07 is assistant principal at Coatesville Area Intermediate High School.

The path to WCU wasn’t easy for Jayden, who spoke to CBS3 news about his early academic struggles. He explained that it was difficult for him to pay attention in elementary school and wound up with low grades that landed him in special education classes. But beginning in eighth grade, he turned his downward slope into a climb with the help of parents, teachers, and mentors. The work ethic and discipline he developed as a track athlete helped him find the dedication he needed to succeed at academics. He made the honor roll every semester of high school.

Jayden plans to study business at WCU. He earned 15 credits while dual enrolled at Delaware County Community College.
