WCU's Dept. of Art + Design Presents Border: A Student Exhibition IN Knauer Gallery
Opening October 16th and continuing through November 20, 2024, West Chester University invites students, faculty, staff, and members of the surrounding community to Border: A Student Exhibition in Knauer Gallery. The exhibit is FREE and open to the public. Knauer Gallery is in Swope Music Building and Performing Arts Center, 817 S. High Street, West Chester, PA. Gallery hours are Monday – Friday from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.
Border takes inspiration from Dave Kube’s photography exhibition, I Thought You Were A Doorway, which was recently shown in Knauer Gallery. The artwork for Border explores the complex meanings of border and identity in various contexts.
This student show is juried by Dave Kube and WCU Professor of Art History Nogin Chung. The top three student artworks will be awarded an Amazon gift card.
Kube says, “The idea of borders can be understood differently in various contexts. While borders define nations and countries and serve as a symbol of division and separation, they also preserve cultural identities, and politically function as a target of subversion. In art, borders are sites of stability but become sites of instability when crossed.”
