WCU Office of Sustainability Invites Staff to Participate in Spring 2025 Workshop

Last summer, the Office of Sustainability welcomed members of other schools in the state system to the first-ever PASSHE Brandywine Project at WCU, organized by Aliza Richman, Sustainability Council chair, and Cheryl Wanko, WCU English professor and long-time Sustainability Council member.
Different from previous Brandywine Project workshops, this event is divided into two segments, offering participants the option to engage in one or both sessions: the 8 to 10 a.m. workshop and the 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. resource training. Complimentary breakfast and lunch are part of the program.
The Brandywine Project takes place in Philips Autograph Library in Philips Memorial Building.
Staff are invited to network while they learn about the Office of Sustainability and its operations, discover ways to implement more sustainable habits into their everyday lives, and gain hands-on experience to support a healthier campus and surrounding environment. Interactive sessions explore the University’s commitments and accomplishments plus ways that staff members can individually help WCU be a leader in higher ed sustainability.
The OoS fosters multiple sustainable practices and areas on campus. This includes the WCU campus gardens to increase access to fresh produce and a compost station at the north campus garden to break down food waste.
Additionally, the Green Office Program offers tips to make offices more “green.” Transportation, energy use, recycling, and campus printing are just a few of the topics the program covers. The program’s SharePoint site allows participants to share ideas and resources.
The Office of Sustainability also oversees the Sustainability Council. Meetings are open to employees and students. The next meeting will take place this Friday, February 21, at 1:30 p.m. in Sykes 252 and via Zoom. Contact Aliza Richman, Sustainability Council chair, for the link: arichman@wcupa.edu.
