About the Public Safety Departments
The Police Department is a 24 hour/7 day a week operation. The Police enforce all Pennsylvania laws (traffic and criminal law) and West Chester University's Code of Conduct.
The Security Department conducts ID checks, foot patrols of the residence halls and common areas. Security is available on campus from 8 pm—4am.
The Parking Department enforces parking regulations within the parking lots of both north and south campus as well as the four parking garages owned by the University. This department is open Monday– Friday, 8 am—2 pm
The Electronic Security Department ensures students, faculty and staff have access on their “RAM e-Cards” to the buildings where they work or live in. This department is open Monday—Friday 10 am—6pm.
Safety Tips:
- Download the WCUSafe app, on Android and Apple. If you can’t find someone to walk with you, use this app and our dispatcher will watch you walk home virtually.
- Program WCUPD emergency number in your phone. Your call will be answered 24/7. 610-436-3311
- Download the WCU Shuttle app for shuttle bus information, routes and times.
- Use crosswalks and pedestrian crossing signals to safely cross streets.
- Do not prop open exterior doors. Though it may be convenient, it is unsafe.

West Chester University is a dry campus which means alcohol is NOT allowed on campus.
College students and the elderly are most likely to become victims of scams
NEVER provide personal information to anyone over the phone! If a person on the phone says there is “a warrant for your arrest “ and asks for personal information, hang up the phone.
