Dr. Zhang is a licensed clinical psychologist who teaches a variety of courses to graduate students in both clinical mental health and school counseling programs. He has more than 25-year experiences of teaching in counseling, higher education counseling/student affairs, and language at colleges and universities. His research interests include cross-cultural counseling, race and gender differences, acculturation, personality, college student development, and racial identity.
Dr. Zhang authored, coauthored, edited, and co-edited over 50 articles, book chapters, and books. His most recent books include Field Experience: Transitioning from Student to Professional , Counseling Theory: Guiding Reflective Practice , Becoming a Skilled Counselor , Rentz’s Student Affairs Practice in Higher Education (6th ed), Multicultural and Diversity Issues in Student Affairs Practice, and Theory of College Student Development. Recently he has completed a book series- American Series in Student Affairs Practice which consists of 11 volumes. In addition, he co-edited the book series with over 20 books- Counseling and Professional Identity in the 21st Century. Dr. Zhang is the recipient of the Travel Award from the American Psychological Association (APA), Outstanding Research Award, and Outstanding Service Award from the American College Personnel Association (ACPA). He has practiced over 20 years and given presentations and conducted counseling training workshops both in and outside the United States.
