Student Employment Types
Federal Work Study (FWS) Positions
- Students who complete the FAFSA by the priority deadline may be considered for the Federal Work Study Program. This program provides part-time jobs for eligible undergraduate students and students with financial need, allowing them to earn money to help pay education expenses.
- If awarded Federal Work Study (FWS), new and returning students can apply for FWS positions through Handshake.
- Funds received are intended to be used toward educational related expenses.
- If you have questions about the Federal Work Study program, contact the Office of Financial Aid at Finaid@wcupa.edu.

Part-Time Wage Positions (Non-Federal Work Study)
- Students who do not receive a Federal Work Study position can still work as a student employee. New and returning students can apply for non-work study positions through Handshake.
- Reach out to professors and advisors to see if there are other opportunities available within departments of interest that may not be posted on Handshake.

Graduate Assistant Positions
- A Graduate Assistantship (GA) is an opportunity to work in a research or service-oriented capacity to gain valuable work experience in higher education or an academic field and earn a tuition waiver and stipend.
- New and returning students can apply for Graduate Assistantships through Handshake.
- Prospective students can view open Graduate Assistantships at GA Roles.

Resident Assistant Positions
- The Resident Assistant (RA) is a paraprofessional, undergraduate student staff member of the Residence Life and Housing Program.
- Resident Assistants can further develop personal awareness and interpersonal communication skills vital for success in all facets of life.
- An RA must be a full-time undergraduate student at West Chester University.

On-Campus Internship Opportunities
- On-campus internships are just one way to gain relevant, real-world experience while building your professional skills.
- New and returning students can apply for internships through Handshake.
- Reach out to professors and advisors to see if there are internship and experiential learning opportunities available within departments of interest that may not be posted on Handshake.
International Students
- International Students can apply for on-campus student employment.
- International students are not eligible for Federal Work Study positions on campus.
- Working without proper authorization could jeopardize visa status.
- A Social Security Number is required to work in the United States, but you must secure a job first to apply for the Social Security Number.
- International students are limited in the number of hours they may work during the semester, as well as during summer and university breaks.

Login to Handshake using your WCU ID to create a profile, learn more about upcoming events, schedule virtual appointments with the Career Development Center Counselors, and apply to jobs and internships.
