Advisory Committees

Information Services & Technology depends upon the collaboration and input of 12 Advisory Groups to provide community advice and interaction in an ongoing way. Advisory Groups will be involved with all five major areas of IS&T (four departments plus the Office of the VP). The groups will be co-chaired by one IS&T member and one person from outside IS&T. Meeting will vary in frequency as shown below.

Additionally, an Executive Committee will be created consisting of the non-IS&T co-chairs of the 12 committees plus the five senior-most members of IS&T. This Executive Committee will meet twice annually to look broadly at the activities of the 12 groups and the IS&T organization in the areas covered.

IT Advisory Executive Committee

  • The Executive Committee will consist of the non-IS&T co-chairs of the 12 committees plus the five senior-most members of IS&T. This Executive Committee will meet twice annually to look broadly at the activities of the 12 groups and the IS&T organization in the areas covered.

Distance Education Advisory Committee

  • Group: IS&T Facilitation by: Distance Education Services
  • Co-Chairs: Rui Li and Esther Schmidt (Language & Culture)
  • Frequency of Meetings: Once a semester (Spring, Summer, Fall)
  • Charter: The purpose of the committee is to provide both conceptual and practical support and guidance to distance education at WCU. The group aims to support IS&T Distance Education Services as it continues to support an increasing number of online courses, programs, and faculty at WCU; strengthen the communication between IS&T and the academic units within the university as well as faculty; and provide context for conversations and debates about current issues and best practices in distance education and disseminate results.

Teaching and Learning Spaces Advisory Committee

  • Group: IS&T Facilitation by: EdTech & User Services
  • Co-Chairs: JT Singh and Dr. Christian Penny (Educational Foundations and Policy Studies)
  • Frequency of Meetings: Twice a year (Fall and Spring semester)
  • Charter: Intended to create a vision for teaching and learning space development aligned with University strategic direction and principles of good pedagogy, the committee identifies teaching and learning space needs, sets priorities and recommends funding for improvements to teaching and learning spaces at WCU. This group would also provide recommendations for teaching laboratory spaces and active learning classrooms designed for active and collaborative learning.

WCU LMS Advisory Committee (existing)

  • Group: IS&T Facilitation by: EdTech & User Services
  • Co-Chairs: Lauren Keefe and Dan Forbes (Philosophy)
  • Frequency of Meetings: Monthly
  • Charter: The team meets monthly to discuss feature releases & updates from D2L, user interface & branding changes, tool integrations, training efforts & collaboration with faculty, and general support discussion as well. Meetings typically include a full agenda consuming approximately 1.5 hours.

OnBase Advisory Group

  • Group: IS&T Facilitation by: Enterprise Services
  • Co-Chairs: Carla Davis and Jenna Krier (Graduate Studies)
  • Frequency of Meetings: Monthly
  • Charter: To provide the group with an update on the status of the application, including new enhancements, share new upcoming projects and hear any concerns/issues members of the group may have. This group will also play a role in the development of a governance document for OnBase (i.e. retention policy, what qualifies to be a super users, etc.).

SharePoint Advisory Group

  • Group: IS&T Facilitation by: Enterprise Services
  • Co-Chairs: Juli Szonntag and Matt Miller (School of Music)
  • Frequency of Meetings: Meets twice a year (once/semester)
  • Charter: To provide the group with an update on the status of the application, including new enhancements, and to allow the group to share with each other "tips & tricks" and new uses they have for the application within their departments. The meeting usually includes a guest speaker (i.e. a vendor, a super user).

SIS Advisory Group

  • Group: IS&T Facilitation by: Enterprise Services
  • Co-Chairs: TBD and Megan Jerabek (Academic Affairs)
  • Frequency of Meetings: Meets twice a semester (Scheduled to start April 2018)
  • Charter: To provide the group with an update on the application and share future development/upgrade/patching plans with it. Also, allow the group to share their thoughts on new technologies, functionalities, etc. that they believe campus could benefit from and should be part of the SIS roadmap.

TargetX Advisory Group

  • Group: IS&T Facilitation by: Enterprise Services
  • Co-Chairs: Carla Davis and Jenna Krier (Graduate Studies)
  • Frequency of Meetings: Monthly (Scheduled to start March 2018)
  • Charter: To provide the group with an update on the status of the application, including new enhancements, share new upcoming projects, hear any concerns/issues members of the group may have and to allow the group to share with each other "tips & tricks" they have learned using the application within their departments.

Web Advisory Group

  • Group: IS&T Facilitation by: Enterprise Services
  • Co-Chairs: Dan Swift and Kristin Howley (Communications Department)
  • Frequency of Meetings: Meets twice a year (once/semester)
  • Charter: To share progress on new web developments, and to look for the group for feedback and input on future enhancements.

Information Security Advisory Council

  • Group: IS&T Facilitation by: Information Security
  • Co-Chairs: Frank Piscitello and Megan Jerabek (Registrar Office)
  • Frequency of Meetings: 3-4 Times a year (at least once during Fall and Spring semesters)
  • Charter: The Information Security Advisory Council is responsible for reviewing and advising on information security policies and procedures regarding access to University data consistent with relevant federal and state legislation, and existing university policies and procedures. The Council will also help facilitate internal and external communications regarding the use and access and risks to University data.

Campus Networking Advisory Committee

  • Group: IS&T Facilitation by: IT Infrastructure Services
  • Co-Chairs: Kevin Partridge and Marion McKinney (Residence Life)
  • Frequency of Meetings: Quarterly
  • Charter: To provide key areas of the campus community a forum which fosters the sharing of ideas and sets the strategic direction for wired and wireless network-based services for WCU's campus.

Campus Telephony and Converged Communications Advisory Committee

  • Group: IS&T Facilitation by: IT Infrastructure Services
  • Co-Chairs: John Huk and Karissa Zerr (Registrar’s Office)
  • Frequency of Meetings: Quarterly
  • Charter: To provide key areas of the campus community a forum which fosters the sharing of ideas and sets the strategic direction for voice and collaboration services for WCU's campus.

Departmental Server and Research Computing Advisory Committee

  • Group: IS&T Facilitation by: IT Infrastructure Services
  • Co-Chairs: Richard Chan and Dr. Allison M Kolpas (Mathematics)
  • Frequency of Meetings: Quarterly
  • Charter: To provide a forum for the campus community to offer guidance and recommendations regarding strategies, priorities, policies and standards for IS&T support of department specific local computing resources and research-based centralized/shared high performance computing resources.
