Program Overview

Learn more about the world through your ability to reason and solve problems using the mathematical sciences. WCU can set you on your future career path through one of our degree options in Mathematics: a Bachelor of Arts, and a Bachelor of Science.

Students can specialize in a specific branch of math or pursue a concentration in a related field such as financial mathematics, statistics, actuarial science, or applied and computational mathematics through the selection of elective courses.

Regardless of concentration or program, our students have many hands-on opportunities including study abroad, internships, and collaborative research projects, all essential to professional development in the field. Our faculty are award-winning teachers and scholars who work with students on leading-edge research projects, many of which are funded by grants from the National Science Foundation and other agencies. They are influential researchers, publishing widely in their fields and providing expertise to the media and the public as well.

Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics

This program is designed to prepare students for graduate study in mathematics. The program begins with a core that includes calculus, computer science, physics, statistics, and background courses, followed by a required sequence of courses covering the major areas of the mathematical sciences - algebra, analysis, geometry, statistics, and applied mathematics.

Bachelor of Science in Mathematics

This degree provides students with a wide choice of career-oriented programs through concentrations in various branches of applied mathematics. The program is designed to position its graduates for a career in applied mathematics.
