CSE Ambassador Program
College of Education & SocialWork Student Leadership Program for Teacher Education Majors!
The Community Service (CSE) Ambassador Program is the College of Education & Social Work’s premiere student leadership program! As a CSE Ambassador you’ll mentor small groups of incoming first year and transfer students to share details on Community Service, other Teacher Candidacy requirements, and things that have worked well for you in your program so far! The CSE Ambassador Program also hosts unique networking, professional development, and leadership events for those in the program! Meet Teachers, Principals, Superintendents, and other Educational Professionals from school districts all over the area!
Program Highlights
Requirements to become a CSE Ambassador
- Earn a Certificate of Early Completion by completing (including submission of all paperwork) your Community Service Experience (CSE) requirement by July 1st, 2020 and complying with one of the following:
- First year students that entered in the preceding Fall semester and complete their CSE requirement during the course of their first year and submit all paperwork by the deadline listed above will be eligible. (i.e. Enter in Fall 2019 and complete CSE requirement by July 1st, 2020)
- Transfer and internal transfer students that entered in the preceding Fall semester and complete their CSE requirement by the start of their immediate next Spring semester will be eligible. (i.e. Enter in Fall 2019 and complete CSE requirement by January 31st, 2020)
- Transfer and internal transfer students that entered this current Spring semester and complete their CSE requirement during the course of their first year and submit all paperwork by the deadline listed above will be eligible. (i.e. Enter in Spring 2020 and complete CSE requirement by July 1st, 2020)
- Complete and submit an application to become a Community Service Ambassador by July 30th, 2020!
Responsibilities & Privileges as a CSE Ambassador
- Speaking to incoming first year and transfer students in classes or at Teacher Candidacy Info Sessions about your Community Service Experience and takeaways on how you felt service is relevant to Teacher Education.
- Minimum Participation requirements include: Attending 4 speaking and/or mentoring sessions a semester and 50% of networking opportunities (if 4 are hosted, attend 2).
- Opportunities to attend conferences and other travel opportunities.
- Network with different Teachers, Superintendents, and Principals from school districts across the greater area.
- Leadership opportunities hosting or attending different professional development events, panels, etc.
Mission, Values, & Learning Outcomes
- The Mission of the CSE Ambassador Program is to:
- Positively impact the number of first year and transfer students that submit a Pre-Approval Form for the Community Service Experience (CSE) Requirement during their first year in their teacher education major.
- Build exposure to and capacities for professionally relevant skills in program participants such as: leadership, presentation, public speaking, mentoring, networking, continuous learning, introspective observation, and applicable leadership skills.
- Positively impact faculty/administration perception of the relevance of community service to teacher education.
- Positively enhance the self-image and propensity for setting goals in program participants.
- The Program has several key learning & development outcomes for participants:
- Provide participants with opportunities to expose and allow them to develop concepts relevant to their profession as teacher educators including: presentation, public speaking, mentoring, networking, continuous learning, introspective observation, and applicable leadership skills.
- Create a positive impact on student perception of priority in needing to complete the CSE requirement.
- The CSE Ambassador Program reflects the College of Education & Social Work Mission, Vision, & Conceptual Framework:
- Methods of Delivery: Ethics and Values, Leadership, Service, Local and Global Partnerships, Applied Practice
- Outcomes: Reflective & Skilled Practitioners, Life Long Learners, Social Justice Advocates
- The CSE Ambassador Program reflects aspects of the following CAEP Standards:
- 1.4 Providers ensure that candidates demonstrate skills and commitment that afford all P-12 students access to rigorous college- and career-ready standards
- 1.5 Providers ensure that candidates model and apply technology standards as they design, implement and assess learning experiences to engage students and improve learning; and enrich professional practice
- 3.4 The provider creates criteria for program progression and monitors candidates’ advancement from admissions through completion. All candidates demonstrate the ability to teach to college- and career-ready standards. Providers present multiple forms of evidence to indicate candidates’ developing content knowledge, pedagogical content knowledge, pedagogical skills, and the integration of technology in all of these domains
Early completion allows students to have a well-planned, meaningful service experience and enjoy purposeful engagement with the organization. Support is available through the Office of Candidate Services to explore and discuss service opportunities that the student will value and find of interest. Set up a meeting with either Judith MacDonald to discuss opportunities and get signed off on your Pre-Approval Form to get started with your CSE requirement!

ALYSSA CELLA, LEAD AMBASSADOR

Year-Long Student Teaching Placement – 3rd Grade Glenwood Elementary
As Lead Ambassador:
- Support program by planning creative social activities and mentoring new student ambassadors.
Other Involvement:
- Peirce Middle School Head Cheerleading Coach
- Henderson High School Assistant Cheerleading Coach
On Service:
- Little All-American Football Association – Volunteer Cheerleading Coach
- Being involved in cheerleading always made me feel a sense of enjoyment and accomplishment, even more so now that I’m helping girls learn and fall in love with cheerleading. I’m honored to have the opportunity to be an advocate for young athletes while helping them have fun and achieve their goals.
On Teacher Ed:
- I love watching and helping children grow and the opportunity to help my students feel accomplished, build self-efficacy, and set goals has always been one of the most rewarding parts in looking forward to being a teacher.
JACQUELINE PIZZICO, LEAD AMBASSADOR

Year-Long Student Teaching Placement – 4th Grade General Wayne Elementary
As Lead Ambassador:
- Support program by planning literacy based service and community activities and mentoring new student ambassadors.
Other Involvement:
- Advocacy Chair – Kappa Delta Pi International Honors Society in Education
On Service:
- 2nd Grade Support Classroom – Coach & mediator for 2nd graders
- Working as a coach and mediator for 2nd graders, was such a rewarding experience seeing them learning to follow rules and playing fairly with others by working through team building exercises, get-to-know-you activities, and fun games and watching their friendships grow!
On Teacher Ed:
- I strive to be a lifelong learner and try to make the most of every moment I’m learning each day inside and outside of class. I want to bring this attitude into my future teaching, so my students will feel the same way.

- There’s so many great ways and opportunities to get involved, no matter what it is you want to teach or what you want to do! I always think the most important thing is to find an organization that’s going to be the best fit for you and where one can apply themselves completely to whatever tasks are in front of them, make the most impact you possibly can and help whoever you’re trying to work with to the best of your ability.

- There are so many fantastic opportunities available to teacher education majors at WCU! From service and volunteer opportunities, fields, observations, student teaching, to different student organizations, alternative spring break programs, and international travel and other conference opportunities, there’s something for everyone. I think the most important thing is to be as intentional and make the most of each opportunity that you can!
