About Us
Welcome to the BRAIN-MAP Lab, a team of undergraduate and graduate students led by principal investigator Dr. Michael Gawrysiak.
Our research program is primarily focused on the following areas:
1. Risk and resilience factors related to emotion dysregulation.
2. Behavioral interventions for posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), substance use disorders (SUD), and depression.
3. Mindfulness as a treatment target to ameliorate suffering and promote a more meaningful and healthier lifestyle.
4. The benefits of participating in Tibetan Bon Buddhist meditation programming.
5. Perspectives on psychedelic drug use (I.e., psilocybin, LSD) and the potential utility and consequences of medicinal and recreational use.
What is mindfulness?
Practicing mindfulness involves intentionally paying attention to the present moment while adopting an attitude of acceptance and nonjudgment.
